Human Rights for Women <-> Human Rights For All: Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Sponsored by CWGL and supported by NGO Committee on the Status of Women, Amnesty International, AWID, Madre, and the international coalition of the Women Won't Wait. End Violence Against Women and HIV/AIDS. Now. campaign.
On December 10, 2007, a civil society campaign was launched to celebrate the upcoming 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This project is pioneered by a group of notable activists known as The Elders and seeks to reclaim the principles in the UDHR though the message that Every Human Has Rights.
The Center for Women's Global Leadership (CWGL) is a partner in this UDHR60 NGO campaign and will be participating with a special focus on the month of March. In March, and using International Women’s Day as an anchor, CWGL will take the lead on highlighting a spectrum of women’s human rights issues, making more visible why the UDHR is important for women’s lives, and focusing on the significance of women’s leadership in realizing human rights for all. As part of this campaign, activities highlighting Human Rights for Women ‹—› Human Rights for All will begin March 1 and culminate with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign 2008 (November 25 to December 10).
The Global Campaign to Stop Killing and Stoning Women! was invited by the Center for Women's Global Leadership in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Declaration, and honor decades of landmark women’s rights advocacy as we work to put in practice the UDHR60 campaign slogan, Every Human Has Rights.
