In a corner of Istanbul today, the man who might be described as Turkey's gay poster boy will be buried – a victim, his friends believe, of the country's deepening friction between an increasingly liberal society and its entrenched conservative traditions.

Chandigarh: After the horrific killing some weeks ago of a pregnant women and her driver-paramour, there has been another case of honour killing.

Ragbir Singh, a farmer killed his teenage daughter in Banga in Nawanshahr district as she had been in love with a distant cousin.

Last week Singh administered insecticide tablets to her while she was sleeping and after she died, he tried to pass it off as a natural death.

He later told the village folk that she had died in sleep and cremated her without much fuss the very same day.

GAJJUKHERA/BANUR: In yet another case of honour killing, a young couple, who had married in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in February against the wishes of their families, was hacked to death by the girl's brother on Saturday in Patiala district of Punjab. While the boy died soon after the attack, the girl succumbed to her injuries at PGI.

Sources said Salwinder Kaur, a Dalit from Gajjukhera village, had fallen in love with Suresh Kumar, a Khatri boy, of the same village two years back.

HYDERABAD: A man killed his sister on Sunday morning for 'undermining' the family honour by approaching the village sarpanch for amicable settlement of her love affair.

D Jyothi, 20, a resident of Ghanpur in Patancheru, had fallen in love with one Janardhan of the same village. However, her family members were against their affair and warned her to stay away from Janardhan.

Yet another case of honour killing of an unmarried girl in border village Naushera Dhalla has come to light where a family allegedly killed their young daughter (22) and performed her last rites clandestinely.

Police said that this incident occurred last night. When incident was brought in the notice of police, Assistant Sub Inspector Dilbag Singh along with his two subordinates rushed on the sport and tried to stop the cremation but could not do so.

Hetal Ravchaka

In what is being seen as an honour killing, a 19-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by her father and two brothers at Rajpara village in Sihor taluka of Bhavnagar district on Thursday for marrying into a lower caste.

According to the Sihor police, Hetal Ravchaka, the deceased, was stabbed to death by her father Jeta Rathod, while two brothers Raju and Sanjay assisted him in the crime this morning.

Hetal had received severe wounds on the throat and stomach, and was rushed to a local hospital. However, she was declared dead on arrival by the doctors on duty.

A Palestinian woman died after her father buried her alive claiming he wanted to preserve the "family honor." The father, in his seventies, turned himself in and admitted to killing his 24-year-old divorced daughter.

After investigating the crime scene, the police discovered that the woman’s father had tied her arms and legs and muzzled her before burying her alive. According to press reports on Monday, the coroner was to examine the body to determine whether the woman was also beaten before her death.
